It has been an awfully long time since I posted anything here, if you’re watching (doubtful!) then I am very sorry!
Things on the allotment front are still at a standstill… I think…
To cut a long story short, I may be sharing a plot with my sister in law and it’s unknown if we actually have a plot yet or not. We were supposed to receive letters to let us know but I haven’t and SIL hasn’t mentioned anything yet. Hubby’s uncle has a plot over there and is trying to get us one but he’s over visiting his daughter in Texas for the holidays so we can’t find out any more. I’m used to waiting now so it’s not a problem!
So it’s a new year, and with those usually follow resolutions and aims for the months ahead. I’m no exception! After a few months of what I’d call junk food we’re getting back to basic, healthy cheap food. I’m going to start the vegbox again until we’re pulling up our own fresh veg.
They’ve started a new box called roots and greens. To quote them ‘With generous portions of seasonal staple veggies with a great shelf life, the new roots & greens box is ideal for thrifty cooks and families watching the pennies…’
Perfect!
Did I say I’m participating in the Ishers ‘Buy Nothing New For A Year’ challenge? Well, I am! Done well so far – instead of buying a new bicycle my sister has given me her unused one. The only thing that I’LL be buying new is a seat for Indi (weeride kangeroo seat, thanks HPP). Jeff wants to buy a new bike for himself, I’ve tried to persuade him to getting a second hand one but he used to bike a lot before we met so has his reasons…
I’m also going to attempt to drastically reduce the amount of waste that leaves our home intended for the landfill. We already recycle a lot but with 17 cats there’s quite a bit of litter leaving in black bags. I’m going to try out a few other ways to fill their trays and see if it works. Bearing in mind, their litter fills a whole black bag every day and extremely heavy thanks to the clay-like stuff we buy. I can get bundles of newspapers for free from a source so going to try a shallow layer of clay-like stuff topped with shredded newspaper.
We’re also going to avoid the supermarket at all costs apart from the fortnightly delivery of cat and dog food and litter.
That’s all for now. I’ll be back soon I hope, with plenty of new recipes and photos

Did you say 17 cats???? My goodness!
Enjoy the weeride seat, it is so insanely cold here that we haven’t used it in a while but LP likes to sit in it in the middle of the kitchen and pretend to be on “her” bike.
Yep, 17. I think our limit has just about been reached
We’re soft touches you see, show us a cat that has been abandoned and we’re loathe to turn it away!
I don’t plan on going on any bike rides any time soon! It’s -5.8 degrees celsius right now! Think we’ll wait til it gets warmer.
Happy New Year Sara.
17 cats!!
And Mr treehugger thought I was bad!!
Good luck with your buy nothing new for a year, I really like the idea and I’m gonna give it my best shot.
