This cake was Indi’s first taste of anything but breastmilk!
I accidently left it in the oven too long but it was better for it! I got the recipe from Frugal Living in the UK (I added raisins & mixed peel).
I went down Mum’s yesterday & while walking the dogs we spotted bushes full of blackberries. The pickings round my way is complete pants, what was there has rotted away thanks to the rain.
We picked a pound & a half of blackberries while the dogs ran riot in the meadow, rolling in cow pats (the cows had moved on thankfully!(I keep wondering what that stink is, Sky needs a bath!))
I’m going to use these berries today rather than freeze them but I’ll have to find a new recipe first. Maybe blackberry jam? Just have to make sure I get the setting point right… tried making grape jam last year but left it too long & ended up with very solid grape toffee!
Must remember next year to forage properly for wild strawberries, me & Connor found a few in the hedgerow but not enough to really enjoy. They were so sweet!
A few Ishers have inspired me to take up crochet, I knew the very basics and decided to try making a lapghan. I had some wool & a crochet hook from Mum & decided to have a go. What I ended up with, well, put it this way, it didn’t look pretty!
Back to Mum to beg for help! We (she) finally figured it out & it clicked! Then we realised we were using the wrong size hook. Back home I started again, using the right hook and it’s actually starting to look good! It’ll take me a while to make – have wait for Indi to be sleeping & after I’ve tidied & walked Sky… so this time next year I might finish it!
I’ve added a few more blogs as you can see. They’re all Ishers & their blogs (not all are veg*n friendly – be warned!) will be a constant reminder to me to try and be self-sufficientish more and more each day.
Now my veg*n blogs links is looking a bit sparse… any veg*ns out there who read this blog – send me your links!
… Ok, I just looked for jam recipes – have not got enough blackberries! Will try something else!

Mmmmm Caaake!
that looks so tasty.
